(Shays' Rebellion) Col. Samuel Flower and Maj. Gen. Abel Whitney--Mass. Militia Members During Shays' Rebellion. Autograph Letter Signed by Col. Flower, 1p, 12x7", Boston, June 19, 1792, to Maj. Gen. William Shepard of the 4th Division of Massachusetts Militia, offering his resignation from the militia, where he had served as an officer since 1784, because of "the present situation of my affairs…" Clean fold split, easily repaired. With an Autograph Letter Signed by Maj. Gen. Abel Whitney, 1p plus address leaf, 7¼x6", Aug. 27, 1792, accepting Col. Flower's resignation. Both Flower and Whitney served under Maj. Gen. William Shepard in 1786 as the Massachusetts Militia defended the Springfield Armory during Shays' Rebellion. Estimated Value $300 - 500
