Lot 3400

Great Britain. Bronze Proof Farthing, 1885. S.3958; KM-753; Peck-1840 (Extremely Rare); Freeman-556 (dies 7+F) Rarity-19 (2 to 5 specimens in existence). Victoria, 1837-1901. Obverse: Young portrait of Queen left, with hair in bun. Reverse: Britannia with shield and trident. This piece has mirror fields with a mirror edge and is far superior to the currency coin in its crispness of detail. Rarely seen and missing from the Colin Cooke collection of farthings, Peck lists only the Rev. E. Rogers specimen, which may be this coin. Much rarer than the proof farthings of the 1860's and 1870's. In a new NGC 4 prong holder. NGC graded Proof 65 Red & Brown.
Estimated Value $500 - 600.

Realized $518
