Klever, Julius Yulevich Von -- "Bridge in Ljuban" Important Russian Artist; A Monumental Work (1850 - 1924) Julius Von Klever was a landscape painter known as the "Russian Rembrandt", clearly for his remarkable capture of light during Russian sunsets, the expanses of the forests in winter and an almost melancholic approach to atmospheres evoking the lyrical-romantic isolation of the rural countryside. Klever attended the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg in 1867 where he studied under 19th Century masters and was awarded multiple medals upon exhibitng in Paris and Berlin. After the Russian Revolution he participated in the First State Free Exhibition of Artworks in Petrograd in 1919 and painted until his death. Offered is a superb example of his work. Painted in 1915, "Bridge in Ljuban" captures two rustic wood houses along a quiet river, access by a crudely built beech wood log bridge. Atmospheric, dense and beautifully executed. Oil on canvas 34 x 41". Canvas is in fine condition, with a decades old, discreet and very professional small repair on verso. Painting framed to 42½ x 51" in gilt wood. Slight corner separation to frame in one corner. A magnificent work. Estimate Value $15,000 - UP
