Everett, Edward: 20th US Secretary of State, Senator, House Representative and Governor of Massachusetts ALS From 1860 (1794-1865) Remarkable statesman from Massachusetts having dedicated himself to public life and also known for his oratory skills. Likely best remembered today as the featured orator at the dedication ceremony of the Gettysburg National Cemetery in 1863, speaking for two hours prior to Abraham Lincoln's famous 2 minute address.

Autograph letter signed 7.5 x 4.75" writing to Hon. G. L. Davies dated "Boston 21 Sept. '60" obliged for his sending the "Advertiser" which he noticed was addressed in Davies hand. In return Everett reminds him after his return from Portland, that he dropped him a line mentioning the author of the "Drum". The valediction is on the verso "I Remain Sincerely Yours, Edward Everett." Two chips to one side, two fold lines and minor tape residue to edges otherwise very legible, stout and clean. Engraving also included. Estimated Value $400 - 800
