Lot 3210

Fr-357. 1891, $2 Coin Note. PCGS Superb Gem New 67 PPQ. . Fr-357. . KL-144. Another fresh brilliant note, one of the predominant scarcities in the 1890-91 Treasury Note series, it has a portrait of General McPherson.

The coin notes were issued in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 1,000 Dollars of the series of 1890 and 1891. A 500 Dollar note with portrait of General Sherman was also authorized and a plate made, but only a proof impression of the note is known; it was not placed in circulation. Because this series of paper money caused a drain on the Treasury's gold, it was soon abolished (later 1890s) and just as soon forgotten by the public, but clearly not by the collectors of this fascinating hobby!
Estimated Value $8,000 - 9,000.

Realized $8,050
