Lot 32

1794 S-46 R3 PCGS graded AU53. Frosty light olive and steel brown with traces of satiny mint luster remaining visible in protected areas, especially on the reverse. The surfaces are smooth, free of any hint of corrosion or verdigris, and this cent has excellent eye appeal. The only defects are some nicks on the cheek and neck, the most notable one being a diagonal nick on the jaw over the throat. Sharply struck EDS, Breen state I, with a single die crack on the obverse reaching from the dentils right of the date up through the bust and neck into the hair right of the cap. There is a fine double profile on the nose, lips, and chin plus stronger doubling on the 179. Graded EF45 net EF40 and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #20058. Bland says EF45 and tied for CC#6. Our grade is EF45. Both sides of this cent are plated in the 1923 reference on the cents of 1794 prepared by S. H. Chapman. Comes with a great provenance that can be traced back well over a century. The attribution and Boka provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 63. PCGS #35603. Estimated Value $15,000 - UP
