Historic Paramount Pictures; Cecil B. DeMille Signed Contracts, Joseph Breen Document. 105 years ago Paramount Pictures, Hollywood film studio and now a global media giant was founded. The first employee hired was the legendary director Cecil B. DeMille who at the time was only a stage director with no experience in film who directed their 1914 hit THE SQUAW MAN. DeMille went on to be a director, editor, producer, screenwriter and actor and the most commercially successful producer-director in the studio's history. In this lot are three (3) signed contracts between Paramount and the acclaimed director. All three relate to monies being spent, advanced or guaranteed dated 1938, 1941, and 1950 and involve the film THE BUCCANEER, REAP THE WILD WIND, NORTHWEST MOUNTED POLICE, SAMSON and DELILAH and THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH. All on onion skin paper and boldly signed in black fountain pen by DeMille and executives of Paramount. Finally a letter to Paramount Studios, approving the lyrics of a song in WHITE CHRISTMAS (yes, really) by the notorious production code administrator of the Motion Picture Association who does add that "final judgment will be based on the finished picture".
