Lot 310

1799 Draped Bust Cent. . S-189, R2+. VG-7. The obverse is very slightly sharper but there is a small patch of fine porosity just right of the Y in LIBERTY and a couple faint hairline scratches on the portrait. No verdigris, and the remainder of the obverse is smooth and attractive. The date and LIBERTY are clear, only the bottom edge of the date starting to flow into the rim below. The reverse is slightly weaker than the obverse, as usual on this variety, but the legends are complete and easily readable. The only marks are some faint pitmarks at the O in OF and some minor nicks scattered about, none notable. Glossy steel brown and chocolate. MDS. An attractive lower-grade example of this key date in the large cent series.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 4,000.

Realized $3,795
