"J. GAULT" EP-78, HB-131, S-96, 5¢ Plain frame. Fr-EP-78. The five cent plain frame is the second most common of all the Gault pieces. This example is quite attractive, with a smooth brown case that is original and unopened. The bottom half of the mica is crazed, but the clarity isn't all that bad. The stamp is well centered and bright. Very Fine. Ex: Early American History Auctions 10/1998:453.
Estimated Value $400 - 500.
The Samuel J. Berngard Collection.
