Lot 295

1797 Draped Bust Cent. . S-142, R5+. Fine-15. Sharpness VF25 or slightly better but covered with uniform extremely fine porosity. No verdigris, and the only marks are a fine hairline scratch high on the neck and a dull vertical scuff very well hidden in the hair below B in LIBERTY. Slightly glossy dark steel and olive with lighter steel brown highpoints. EDS, Breen state I. The obverse is slightly misaligned to K-7 but the reverse is better positioned on the planchet. Called VF30 net VF20 and tied for CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF30 net F12 and tied for CC#2, his photo #28492. A very important example of this rare variety. And it comes with an important provenance.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 5,000.
