Lot 269

1851 N-5 R2+ PCGS graded MS62 Brown, CAC Approved. Glossy light olive and steel brown with tan in protected areas. Mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and this cent has very nice eye appeal. Looks mint state but there is a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices. No spots or stains, only a few minor contact marks. These include a pair of dull nicks in the field off the chin and a dull rim nick at star 13. LDS, die state b, with a die crack from the coronet through star 5 to the dentils over star 4, and the crack is clear. Our grade is AU58. Not in the overall condition census for the variety but third finest of the late state in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer: 1 in 63, 1 in 64, 2 in 65. Estimated Value $300 - UP
