Lot 259

1851 N-1 R3 Repunched 18 PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous medium steel brown with 5-10% of the mellowing mint red showing on both sides. The surfaces are satiny and virtually flawless, and this cent has excellent eye appeal. A small vertical swipe of slightly darker toning just left of the first 1 can help identify this cent. MDS, die state b. The diagonal lines in the field around the date are gone but the three die lines over the N in UNITED are clear. The repunching on the bottom of the 18 is clear, strongest at the bottom of the 1. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#4 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; 1 finer in 66. Estimated Value $600 - UP
Ex an unrecorded source at a Myrtle Beach show 10/7/2011-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection.
