Lot 25

1841 N-7 R2 PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Lustrous olive and bluish steel brown with traces of very faded mint red showing on the obverse. The surfaces are satiny and really do not show any wear, but there are several shallow low spots on the jaw and neck extending to right of the ear, and these mint-made defects do catch your eye. Otherwise the only defects are a small planchet flake on the rim left of star 4 and a spot of reddish brown toning at the top of star 3. LDS, die state d, with a die crack that bisects the obverse from below star 1 to star 8. Our grade is AU58+, tied for CC#15 overall but finest of the late die state. A great example of a neat die state. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer: 2 in 64, 1 in 65, 1 in 66. Estimated Value $1,000 - UP
