Lot 2474

Ionia, Phokaia, 477-388 BC. Electrum Hekte (or Sixth Stater; 2.62 g). Winged, helmeted head left; behind, fish or seal. Reverse: Deep quadripartite incuse. Bodenstedt --; Boston MFA --; Waggoner (Rosen Collection) --; Dewing --. Noticeable on the obverse are small breaks in the metal, probably mint-made. About Extremely Fine.

The fabric and types suggest this hekte was struck at Phokaia (or Kyzikos), although the obverse type seems unpublished. A coin worthy of further study. The edge is folded, unlike any other hekte this cataloguer has seen, possibly even indicating a new mint for these diverse types.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.

Realized $978
