Attica, Athens, c. 510-490 BC. AR Obol (0.66 g). Helmeted head right of Athena. Reverse: Owl standing right, head facing, with olive-spray behind; to right, ethnic; all within incuse square. Svoronos plate 2, 47. Very Fine for issue.

One of the earliest "owls," this denomination is very infrequently seen. The standard types of Athena/owl developed from the various noble-family shields ("Wappenmünzen" coinage).
