Lot 242

1794 S-41 R3 VG8. Sharpness F12 but there are too many nicks and light scratches for that grade. The notable marks are a thin nick or fissure from the left top of the 9 to the truncation above and three fine vertical scratches inside the wreath through CEN and ON. No corrosion or verdigris, and the color is an attractive glossy olive brown with lighter chocolate on the devices. The date and legends are complete and easily readable except for weakness at ON and CEN due to swelling associated with the die state. MDS, Breen state V, with a strong radial die crack through the D in UNITED to CEN and a lighter radial crack through the right foot of the A in STATES to the wreath. Estimate Value $400 - UP
