China. Dollar, ND (1924). K-683. Republic. Marshal Tuan Chi Jui's portrait facing with nine Chinese words above. Reverse Chinese characters standing for Peace within an open wreath. Prooflike surfaces with lovely light gray toning. PCGS graded MS-64.

Commemorative issue of the seizure of the Government by the Republic of China.
Marshal Tuan Chi Jui was twice in power. As a Chief of the Anfu political party, he became Vice-President after the death of Yuan Shih-kai in 1916, but was dismissed from that position by General Li Yuan Hung. In 1924 Tuan Chi Jui once again came to power as acting President of the Chinese Republic until he was crowned out of office in 1926 shortly after a severe riot at Peking. Tuan Chi Jui made a name for himself in China largely though his early military accomplishments. Later on in his career his actions were not always beneficial to his country. While head of his party, Twan Chi Jui made extensive concessions to Japan and aided that country in gaining undue influence in China. After retiring, Twan Chi Jui resided partly in Tientsin, and partly in Dairen, under Japanese protection.
Estimated Value $600 - 800.
