Great Britain. Shilling, ND. S.2577. Elizabeth I, 1558-1603. Fifth issue (1582-1600).925 Silver fineness. Mint mark hand, struck 1590-1592. Crowned old portrait of Queen facing left. Reverse; Quartered shield of arms. This must rank as one of the finest hammered currency silver coins of the era. Very round, deeply toned and sharply struck, one could be forgiven for assuming that this is a pattern or specially prepared trial striking. Truly a coin for the connoisseur. NGC graded MS-61. Estimated Value $3,000 - UP
