George Gershwin Signed Contract Regarding "Rhapsody in Blue" plus Ira Gershwin ALS and Signed Photograph. George Gershwin (1898-1937) one of America's premiere composers whose mark on popular and classical genres in the 20th Century cannot be overstated. Rhapsody in Blue, orchestral arrangements including Porgy & Bess, and his collaboration with his brother Ira creating some of the most beloved works of musical theater and films in American history including. Offered is an original last page of a contract signed by George Gershwin and HARMS, Inc., one of the top tin pan alley publishers in New York at the time. Contract stipulates that elements of Rhapsody in Blue can be used for the film THE GREAT ZIEGFELD, with a handwritten addendum in another hand that the name Gershwin or Rhapsody in Blue under no circumstance could be used in connection with the advertising. Contract measures 10 x 8½" with George Gershwin's signature extremely bold and legible. Contract was signed one year prior to his death from a brain tumor. From his brother Ira Gershwin (1896-1983), a most beloved lyricist (I Got Rhythm, Someone To Watch Over Me) offered is a wonderful 5 x 7" photo signed in black fountain pen ink as well as a 8 x 6" note handwritten on The Gotham Hotel stationery (now the Peninsula New York) dated Dec. 6, 1937 "Dear Watty, This being my birthday and I being a perverse fellow, I am celebrating this festive day by sending you a check, With my best, Ira".
