First U.S. edition, complete with half title (printed in blue, top 1½ in. trimmed) and fly leaves (notes from earlier owners on first two). Illustrations by John Leech; frontispiece and three other handcolored plates and four black and white. Title page is in red and blue. Original brown cloth covers are soiled and worn; gilt decorations and lettering. Pages are moderately toned and foxed. A well-read copy.
