Lot 21

1841 N-4 R1 PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous bluish steel and olive with 5% of the obverse and 20% of the reverse showing mint red. This cent is nicely struck and choice except for an obvious planchet lamination through the E in CENT into the ribbon loop below where it fades away. The only other flaw is a tiny planchet flake over star 3. Rare E-MDS, die state b, with clear die lines under the 4 with others over the N in UNITED and ERI in AMERICA. The additional die lines at ONE CENT are sharp. Our grade is MS64 net MS60 for the lamination. Tied for CC#10 overall but tied for CC#3 of the die state (an example in state a is unknown). The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; none finer. Estimated Value $1,500 - UP
