Great Britain. Pattern Garter Dollar, 1804. George III, bust right. Reverse: Crowned garter shield. ESC-182. KM-Pn66; Davis-21. Plain edge. Silver. C.H.K. on truncation. Struck over a Spanish Colonial 8 Reales. Undertype coin is clearly evident, as part of the Spanish titles show in "shadow" (all garter dollars were emergency issues struck over earlier coins, most often Spanish 8 Reales, which accounts for the oft-seen rough planchets and other irregularities on the surfaces of the currency coins). Very faint hairlines on bright mirror fields, the obverse legend handsomely outlined in dark-blue toning, while the reverse shows a delightful light golden green iridescence. A premium example! Very rare. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo.
