Ellery, William -- Document Signed by the Rhode Island Signer (1727- 1820) Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Rhode Island. Partly-printed document signed "W: Ellery" as customs collector of the port of Newport, one page, 12¼ x 8", Newport, Nov. 3, 1808. Certifying that the schooner called President, with Elisha Billington as master, from Philadelphia, is carrying merchandise which includes flour, beer, ale, porter, rum, etc. Document is fragile, in good to very good condition; split across at horizontal fold, seal tear, small edge splits and chips. None of this touches Ellery's bold signature. Estimate $300 - 500
