McCarthy, Cormac. Five Page Autograph Letter Signed ca. Early 1980s. (1933-) Five pages, 8.5" x 11", No place; no date. Cormac McCarthy is a novelist and screenwriter, of Southern Gothic, Western, and post-apocalyptic genres and is best known for his Border Trilogy of All the Pretty Horses (1992), The Crossing (1994), and Cities of the Plain (1998), along with Blood Meridian (1985), No Country for Old Men (2005), and The Road (2006) with several adapted into critically acclaimed and successful films.
In a letter addressed to an unknown friend, "Jerry", McCarthy writes about numerous novels and authors he has been enjoying and offers book suggestions to his friend. McCarthy moved to El Paso in 1976 and makes a reference to working in the Southwest, plus the novels he mentions in the letter were published 1979-1980s. It is likely the letter was written in the early 1980s.
Throughout the letter, McCarthy talks about various South American novelists (not a fan of "100 Years of Solitude") and even makes some reading suggestions to his friend which include "The Pine Barrens" and "Coming into the Country" both by John McPhee, The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe and The White Album by Joan Didion. He closes with "All The Best, Cormac."
Pages are stapled together in top left corner and save for minor edge toning, in excellent condition. Estimated Value $1,500 - UP
