Lot 188

1848 N-37 R5- NGC graded MS63 Brown. Frosty light brown and tan. The underlying luster is a bit subdued by a thin layer of natural oxidation, strongest on the obverse. Just a few minor marks including a nick-like planchet chip on the jaw, a tick on the front edge of the neck, and traces of fingerprints in the oxidation at stars 1-2 and 10-11. A great candidate for a proper brushing to uncover the underlying mint luster (and perhaps improve the grade as well). EDS. The die lines are sharp and there are no low spots on either side (a variety that is rarely seen without significant lot spots that harm the eye appeal). Our grade is AU50+, close to AU55, and CC#3 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the NGC label. NGC population 2; none finer in BN at either service. Estimated Value $800 - UP
