Lot 177

1848 N-28 R1 PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Lustrous light olive and steel brown with traces of faded red in protected areas, especially on the obverse. The notable defects are a very shallow low spot that covers the field from star 10 to star 12 (caused by debris on the die, probably grease), and a tiny vertical nick on the chin. M-LDS, die state c. The earlier die lines on the reverse are gone. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 7 finer: 2 in 63, 2 in 64, 3 in 65. Estimated Value $350 - UP
