1880, $2 United States Note. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. Fr-52. . KL-112. This well-centered $2 has all the margins, colors, and eye appeal for a Gem grade, but alas the graders at PCGS Currency located a hidden bend that limits the technical grade. This piece may help prove what many experienced collectors and dealers have long realized, often true both with coins and currency: that a choice AU example with above average eye appeal may sell for as much (or even more) than the same item in techincal uncirculated grades such as 61, 62, or even 63. Expect this note to exceed our likely conservative estimate, as technical grade is often secondary to aesthetic appeal.
