Flying Eagle Cent. 1856. Snow-9. PCGS graded Proof 65. A striking gem example of this Classic small cent issue! Diagonstic lump below top left serif of N in CENT assure the proof status of this piece. Scattered light tick marks and a faint hairline scratch left of C in AMERICA in field. Small spot near rim just below 85 of date. Thick luster over golden brown and mahogany brown surfaces. The highpoints on both obverse and reverse are frosty. The slightest hints of iridescent toning in the reverse periphery near rim at 12:00 and 6:00. A great rarity in the small cent series and one which had its' main production of 1000 + pieces produced from 1856-1857 for distribution to Congress and various other officials. While not excessively rare in Proof 65, there is more demand for gem specimens than there are gem coins! PCGS Pop is 41 in PR65, 4 in PR66 and a single PR67 as finest (PCGS # 2037) .
Estimated Value $20,000 - 23,000.

Realized $23,000
