Lot 173

1848 N-24 R5- PCGS graded AU55. Glossy dark olive brown and chocolate with subtle overtones of bluish steel. Peeps of lighter tan toning faded down from mint color can be found in a couple protected places. Smooth and nearly void of marks. A tiny planchet fissure on the coronet over the left side of the I in LIBERTY and a small tick on the coronet over that B may help identify this cent. LDS, die state c, with extensive sinking on the reverse. The earlier die line from the right top of the O in ONE is gone. Our grade is AU55, CC#6 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer: 1 in 64, 1 in 65. Estimated Value $600 - UP
