Lot 170

1826 N-1 R2 PCGS graded MS65BN. PCGS graded MS-65 Brown. Highly lustrous light chocolate brown with subtle overtones of light bluish steel. The only marks on an otherwise flawless cent are tiny wisps of darker toning around the date and lower stars and a couple more at STA, plus a barely visible struck-through line or pre-striking planchet mark at the nostril and upper cheek. Sharply struck slightly off center to K-8. MDS with a rim cud break above star 6. Remnants of the misplaced star right of the date are mostly gone, only a single diagonal dash remaining. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 and tied for CC#2 as well, his photo #20926. Our grade is MS62. PCGS Population 2; none finer.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
Ex Judge Thomas L. Gaskill, New Netherlands Coin Co. #50, 12/7/57:1463-Emanuel Taylor 10/60.
