Lot 169

1848 N-21 R4- PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Beautiful lustrous olive and bluish steel with 15% of the obverse and 20% of the reverse showing slightly mellowed mint red. Must have been close to receiving an "RB" designation from the folks at PCGS. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has outstanding eye appeal. The only mark is a dull nick in the leaves left of the bottom of the O in ONE, but this mark does catch your eye. Nicely struck with radial lines in 12 of the 13 stars (only star 5 is weak). E-MDS, die state b. The tops of the C & E in CENT are joined by shallow crumbling but there is no trace of crumbling inside the top of the E in CENT. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#3 in the Grellman census. A very nice cent that comes with a superior provenance. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the finest RB at PCGS. Estimated Value $1,500 - UP
