Byzantine Empire. Phocas, 602-610 AD. Gold Solidus (4.39 g), Constantinople mint, struck 607-610 AD. Facing crowned, draped and cuirassed bust, holding globus cruciger. Reverse: Angel standing facing, holding Chi-Rho staff and globus cruciger. SBC 620; DOC II 10. Somewhat better strike than usual. Highly lustrous, but also some die rust to be seen. Extremely Fine.
