Moore, Samuel P. Document Signed ("S Moore"). As Surgeon General to the Confederate States of America. One page, small quarto, Richmond, February 23, 1863. On Confederate States of America/Surgeon General's Office letterhead. Being Special Orders regarding the return of one Private L.B. Lake to his regiment "without delay". Varying degrees (minor to severe) of foxing and toning throughout, most notable at edges; apparent staining on verso visible through paper at center fold at bottom edge; nicks and chips at edges; some edge separation at transmittal folds; 1" tear at top edge; center shows another assignment written lengthwise through the text of the special order, but it does not obscure the document and the signature is unaffected. Overall, fair condition. Framed and matted with a cdv copy to 13 x 16½".
Confederate medical documents of any kind are very desirable and a piece signed by the respected Surgeon General Moore on his office stationery is a rare find, indeed.
