1840 N-12 R2 Small Date PCGS graded AU58, CAC Approved. Attractive medium brown and light chocolate. Frosty mint luster covers the protected areas and the only notable mark is a small puff of reddish brown toning under star 11. Looks mint state but there is light friction on the highpoints of the devices. LDS, die state b (Newcomb's old #13). The die defect under the 1 and fine die lines on the reverse are gone. Our grade is AU50, tied for CC#11 for the variety but tied for CC#6 for the N-13 die state in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; 2 finer: 1 in 63, 1 in 64. Estimated Value $650 - UP
