1860 Silver Three Cents. NGC graded Proof 65. Nicely toned. Gem proof example for the type 3 variety. A wonderfully toned gem with bursts of faint gold, purple lilac, and dusky gray on both sides. Nicely struck, as well, with just outstanding detail in the star outlines and most of the shield (the top ball of the design of the shield is a little flat). Proofs this year, while not rare, are elusive in Gem quality since early collectors often mishandled the delicate surface of their Proof coins. Pop 10; 3 in 66; 1 in 68.
