Two (2) Pre-Columbian Chimu Blackware Pottery: Two Remarkably Distinct Patterns: One Evoking The Plates on an Armadillo, One as Two Gourds. Two terrific examples of Chimu Blackware Pottery from Peru.
1.) Vessel with a distinct pattern very much evoking armadillo plates or scales, a mammal indigenous to the Americas. Very minor chipping at mouth otherwise very fine and beautiful piece. 6 x 5 x 3"
2.) Unusual vessel of two gourds tied together (note details of twine surrounding the "waist" of both) with neck protruding from the center. Bird-like figures decorate the gourds and flanking the neck. 5½ x 4½ x 3" and in choice condition. Estimated Value $400 - 600
