1848 N-7 R1 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Lustrous light steel brown with faded mint red in protected areas on both sides. The surfaces are satiny and this cent is choice except for three small splashes of dark olive brown toning (not carbon) on the obverse. These dark spots are located in the dentils left of star 3, below star 7, and at the bottom of star 10, and they do catch your eye. LDS, die state b, with flowlined fields and a lump on the bottom edge of the curl above the left edge of the second 8. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#9 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer: 1 in 64, 1 in 66. Estimated Value $400 - UP
