Lot 150

1848 N-5 R4 Second 8 Repunched NGC graded MS64 Brown. Frosty golden tan and light steel. The only notable marks are a tiny planchet chip on the lower right of the second 8 (as struck) and a small spot of darker toning off the end of the wreath stem. Rare LDS, die state f, with a small but strong rim cud break off the end of the wreath stem. Looks mint state but there is a trace of friction on the highest points of the devices. Our grade is AU55, tied for CC#10 overall for the variety but CC#4 for those known with the rim cud in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the NGC label. NGC population 3; none finer in BN. Estimated Value $400 - UP
