Tintypes were photographs made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal coated with a dark lacquer or enamel Tintypes enjoyed their widest use during the 1860s and 1870s, This collection of tintypes seemed to have been selected for a look at the more agrarian, working class subjects. Farmworkers, children, modestly dressed adults which are quite appealing seemingly all from the Eastern Seaboard none specifically Western. The largest tintypes are 4¾ x 3¼" both women. But the majority are 3¾ x 2¼" and there one finds the diversity The cabinet cards do seem to focus on the "swells" of the period and predominantly women in their finery. But there are some of children and families Collection represents photographers from the South to the Eastern Seaboard. All pieces certainly show their age but overall fine. Four tintypes are in their original thermoplastic cases. Estimate Value $200 - UP
