Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 109

Lot 1406

1831. PCGS graded AU-50. Nice even gold toning on both sides. A particularly handsome example of this prized type issue. Bear in mind that virtually the entire mintage was melted during the gold price run up of the early 1830s, this economic event caused any available gold coin in circulation to be gathered up and melted for a profit. Hence only a modest number survive of this isue today. Furthermore, with a mintage of only 4,520, about 110 to 140 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. Pop 5; 55 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7671) Estimate Value $10,000 - 11,000
