Lot 1401

Lot of Seven Choice Ivory Carvings. China, Japan, and India, c. 1900-1980. Included are two jolly, plump, "laughing" Buddhas, one holding the peach of longevity. The larger finely modeled, with appealing honey-amber toning, suggesting a good deal of years of handling in veneration. Also two snuff-type bottles, each with ladies and garden scene (one lacking its cap). From Japan, Meiji Period, a splendidly carved and tinted, realistic-looking apple and squash, each hollowed out, with miniature interior vista comprised of several figures in a landscape with house and tracery-like vegetation. The apple with narrow age crack on one side, and re-attached stem. The last, from India, of a woman in dancing pose, on high wood base. The workmanship very handsome., and much better than usual for these. Heights of carvings: 1-3/4" - 5". Lot of 7 items.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.

Realized $575
