Lot 14

1840 N-10 R2 Large Date PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous medium steel brown. A beautiful cent. The only marks are a shallow planchet flake in the field midway between the throat and star 1 (as struck) and a small nick on the chin. Looks like a choice mint state cent but there is a trace of rub on the very highest points of the devices. E-MDS, die state b. The point of the curl over the date is still blunt but the die line at the dentils tips over MERIC is gone. This is the N-10 die state. Our grade is AU58, tied for CC#8 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer: 1 in 65, 1 in 66+. Estimated Value $1,000 - UP
Ex George Ramont 3/25/1979-Jules Reiver, Heritage Auctions 1/24/2006:20153-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection (includes the Reiver collection envelope and lot ticket).

Realized $1,560
