Rare "Gold Mask" Pharaonic Sarcophagus, ca. 1000 BC. An Egyptian upper part of an ornately painted and carved wooden Pharaonic sarcophagus, with a "golden face mask". Wearing a wide striped wig, hands folded on the chest, wearing broad floral collars, one with falcon-headed terminals, winged scarab pectoral, the hands and body painted with funerary subjects including the four Sons of Horus Falcon, a winged wajat-eye holding an ankh and was-sceptre, the ram of Khnum, and figures of Anubis couched on a shrine, kneeling Isis and Nephthys painted on the hands. The face has inset eyes of obsidian marble, pupilbs inlaid with bronze. Reverse: A magnificently carved depiction of the sky goddess Nut outstretching her arms up to the heavens. Mounted on custom stand. Height: 35"; Length: 23".
