Great Britain. The Most Noble Order of the Garter, Collar Badge (The George), ND (Instituted 1348). Vernon-2; MYB-1. 98.9 grams. Height 72 mm, Width 50 mm. Integral loop on St. George's head. A 19th Century example in gold (highlights) and enamels, set with 10 unusual square, mine cut diamonds, superb style and very finely crafted. There are several areas of enamel loss-not evident on first inspection, particularly in the green of the dragon. In addition, it's possible St. George's sword is missing however one is plunged into the body of the dragon. Despite the flaws, a magnificent specimen. Extremely Fine. Estimated Value $90,000 - UP
Order of the Garter is an Order of Chivalry founded by Edward III in 1348. It is the most senior order of knighthood in the British honors system, out ranked in precedence only by the Victoria Cross and the George Cross.
