Roman/Egyptian Glass Head of the Deity Bes in Two Different Colors of Blue. Glass head of of the deity Bes, with a possible scarab on his forehead and a musical instrument in his mouth. Although Bes began as a protector of the pharaoh, he became very popular with everyday Egyptian people because he was particularly protective of women and children and associated with music & dance.
What intrigues in this piece is that there are two colors of blue glass to convey details of his ogreish face and remnants of yellow glass at the ears. 26 x 22 mm. Estimated Value $500 - 800
From the collection of Nancy and Earl Keefer.
