Lot 132

1847 N-31 R5 "Large 7 over Small 7" PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Beautiful glossy uniform light to medium brown with frost in protected areas. Just a few trivial marks including a small spot of darker toning off the tip of the coronet, a small tick between the bust and star 1, and a dull nick on the coronet over the B. This cent has choice mint state eye appeal but there is a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices (but not enough to keep the PCGS grading team from assigning a choice MS grade). LDS, die state d, with die cracks on the reverse. The repunching at the 47 is clear and the "Large 7 over Small 7" feature is obvious. A great example of this tough die variety. Our grade is AU50+, very close to AU55, and tied for CC#6 honors in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 3 finer in 64. Estimated Value $2,500 - UP
Ex Bowers & Merena 3/5/1998:301 ($1450)-American Numismatic Rarities/Stack's 6/23/2004:2244-Mike Atkins 1/29/2006-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection (includes both lot tickets).
