Lot 1308

1870 Pattern Quarter Dollar. Silver, plain edge. Judd-889. Pollock-988. Low Rarity 7. PCGS graded Proof 66. CAC. A rare and desirable pattern in any grade, particularly so at this lofty premium gem grade. The obverse depicts the head of Liberty facing right, sporting a cap which folds up at the back, the cap is adorned with three stars above her forehead. A ribbon binds her hair and a portion of ribbon over her shoulder is inscribed LIBERTY. Above her head is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA following the curvature of the edge, below is IN GOD WE TRUST on a raised ribbon in the field. For the reverse a large open agricultural wreath is found within which states 25 / CENTS / 1870 and above the word STANDARD. Elegant russet and gold toning spans the obverse, the reverse with a more complex combination of deeper russet and gold on the left, rich blues on the right. An outstanding example of the ever popular Standard Silver series coinage that is wonderfully free of handling marks. Lovely golden and blue toning. Pop 1; 2 finer in 67. (PCGS # 61133) Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500
