Lot 1267

1856 N-11 R1 Upright 56 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Lustrous bluish steel brown and chocolate with 15% of the faded mint color remaining, mostly on the reverse. The surfaces are covered with attractive satiny mint frost. A choice example except for two spots of dark toning above star 11 and a trail of microscopic ticks on the chin. The most obvious feature on this cent is a minor planchet clip that weakens the dentils at star 11 and the opposing ones at ME. EDS, die state a, showing the short spike from the left top of the R in AMERICA. Our grade is MS60+. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Pop 1; none finer at PCGS in BN.
Estimated Value $200-UP.
Ex McCawley & Grellman Auctions 1/6/96:668.
