Williams, William -- Thrice Signed Document (1731-1811). Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut. Partly-printed document signed "Wm Williams" three times, one page, 12 x 7¼", Sept. 29, 1761. A legal document by which Samuel Hide Junior of Lebanon, Colony of Connecticut, sells a tract of land containing four and three quarters acres in Lebanon to Jonathan Trumble. Williams signs as a witness at lower left, as Justice of the Peace at lower right, and a third time on the verso, registering the deed in the Book of Records. Fine condition. Jonathan Trumble (1710-85) the buyer of the land, changed his family name at some point to Trumbull (for reasons unknown). He would become William Williams' father-in-law and would serve as colonial governor of Connecticut as well as of the post-Revolutionary state. He was the only colonial governor to support the colonists from the beginning of the Revolution. Estimate $750 - 1,000
