1853-D. NGC graded AU-58. Large D. Some luster remains in the protected areas of the fields, and the strike is sharp. There is only a trace of wear on the high points of Liberty's curls, which adds to the appeal of this popular Dahlonega issue. The surfaces are pleasing with widely scattered marks that blend into the patina and give the coin a nice, balanced appearance. A nice untoned coin. Only 89,678 struck. Pop 79; 41 finer at NGC.
